Frequently Asked Questions

General

Is XPlan suitable for teams?
Currently, XPlan is intended for personal use, even if an unlimited number of users is allowed to use a single installation. But you can bet that we have teams already in mind for the future! XPlan is already designed to be extended to wider scenarios and more demanding requirements.
What is a task manager?

A task manager is a software that helps to manage tasks, where managing means – at least – storing, prioritizing, and tracking the status of any to-do item. Read more.
Freeing your mind from the need to remember and automatic prioritization are among the benefits of a task manager. Read more.

Why Windows?

Web apps can be a good choice for many but, for a lot of people, there are good reasons for preferring a Windows application.
Local data, independence from the Internet connection, quickness, and cost are among them.

Why XPlan does not manage events and calendar?

XPlan is a task manager, intended to handle your queue of tasks, along with your projects, in a dynamic way. A calendar application is best suited for managing scheduling and events, but it usually does not allow the management of projects and tasks.
We plan to extend XPlan to an integration with calendars, but this is not for the near future.

Purchase

Should I re-install after purchase?

No. By purchasing you will receive a license key to insert in the about window of XPlan. If you already have XPlan installed for evaluation, the full XPlan functionality will be immediately available and all of your data will still be there. It may just happen that the automatic update logic detects possible available upgrades.

Which are the limits of the evaluation period?

15 days from installation and 100 max items.

Why does PayPal ask for my phone number?

Paypal wants to collect all the data they need for a totally secure payment. However, your card number and your phone number are never given back to the XPlan website.
After the checkout on the XPlan website, you’re redirected to PayPal, and they handle the payment in total independence. That’s why they also may ask again some of your data, or require data which are not required by the XPlan website.

Tech - Android

Can I access my tasks offline, on XPlan Reader?

Yes. XPlan Reader is expressly designed for that.

Syncing between XPlan desktop and XPlan Reader requires that both run in the same wifi network. Afterward, you can bring XPlan Reader and its data with you everywhere, with no need for wifi or Internet access.

Is communication between XPlan desktop and XPlan Reader encrypted?

Yes. AES-128 encryption with HMAC authentication.

Also, no data at all can be exchanged between XPlan desktop and XPlan Reader without previous manual pairing.

Why doesn’t my Android Reader sync with XPlan desktop?

Syncing between XPlan Reader and XPlan desktop requires

  1. That your XPlan Reader and XPlan desktop run in the same wifi network.
  2. That your XPlan Reader is paired with XPlan desktop. When pairing has not been done before, this procedure starts automatically when XPlan and XPlan Reader run in the same wifi network. XPlan desktop will display a pin that the user has to input on the mobile device as requested.
  3. That your XPlan Reader has not been previously paired with another XPlan desktop. In that case, you have to manually reset the pairing. This can easily be done by switching on “Reset pairing with server” in the settings of XPlan Reader. Afterward, XPlan Reader is ready to pair with another XPlan desktop.

Tech - Windows

Are administrator permissions needed?

Yes. Like most Windows applications, setup and updates require administrator permissions.

Why is an import function missing?

While the easiness of import/export is often advertised, switching between task managers usually requires manual intervention because of the different ways of handling data. XPlan also has a special hierarchical data structure, a feature usually not available in personal task managers that opens new possibilities in organizing your data.
Anyway, we plan to add an import function, which can be useful in some cases. The export function is already there.
